The Association of LD Schools: Strengthening a Community of Specialized Educators
A Network Built for LD Schools
In 2023, a group of dedicated educators and administrators came together with a shared vision—to create a stronger, more connected community for schools serving students with learning differences. The result was the Association of LD Schools (ALDS), an organization designed to support schools specializing in dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, executive dysfunction, and other learning challenges.
At its core, ALDS is about collaboration. We know that running a school for neurodiverse learners comes with unique challenges and rewards. By fostering partnerships between schools, sharing research-backed strategies, and providing professional development opportunities, we help educators refine their craft and expand their impact.
The ALDS Difference: What Our Schools Offer
ALDS member schools are more than just academic institutions—they are places where students who learn differently finally feel understood. These schools provide:
1. Research-Based Teaching Methods
Every ALDS school prioritizes professional development, ensuring teachers are trained in the most effective, science-backed approaches. From structured literacy programs to executive function coaching, educators in our network are equipped with tools that work.
2. Personalized Learning Environments
One-size-fits-all education doesn’t work for students with learning differences. ALDS schools tailor instruction to individual needs, helping students build confidence alongside academic skills.
3. A Focus on Strengths, Not Just Challenges
Too often, students with learning differences are defined by their struggles. ALDS schools flip that narrative, helping students recognize their talents and preparing them for success beyond the classroom.
Spotlight: Westmark School’s Enduring Legacy
For over four decades, Westmark School has exemplified what it means to serve neurodiverse learners with excellence. Their commitment to college preparatory education within a supportive, specialized environment highlights the transformative power of LD-focused schooling.
Why Join ALDS?

Looking Ahead
The future of LD education is bright, but there’s still work to be done. ALDS is committed to ensuring that every student who learns differently has access to a school that meets their needs—and that every educator in this field has the support they deserve.
